SSH Telnet
What is SSH? How to control a server via SSH?
SSH, or Secure Shell, is a network protocol that's used to connect to a web server and perform various tasks through a command line. The protocol is preferred by many experienced users, as the data transmitted over it is encrypted, so it may not be intercepted on the way by a 3rd party. SSH access could be employed for lots of things depending on the type of website hosting account. With a shared hosting account, in particular, SSH is among the ways to import/export a database or to upload a file in case the hosting server allows for it. In case you have a virtual or a dedicated server, SSH may be used for just about everything - you can install software or restart particular services including the web server or the database server which run on the machine. SSH is used mostly with UNIX-like Systems, but there are clients that allow you to employ the protocol if your computer system is working with a different Operating System as well. The connection is created on TCP port 22 by default and the remote server always listens for incoming connections on that port even though a lot of providers change it for security reasons.

SSH Telnet in Semi-dedicated Servers
SSH access is provided as standard with some of our
semi-dedicated server solutions, while with others you can add it via the hosting Control Panel if needed - even just for the current month. Either way, you'll be able to activate and de-activate the function with only one click via the SSH section of the CP. In the same location, you will see the server name, the port number and the username needed to connect to our platform. You will also find a box where you could enter the password you want to use, since it does not have to be the same as the one you use to log into the Control Panel. For better protection, you can also change it as often as you require. The full list of the commands that can be performed within a semi-dedicated account is available in our Knowledge Base, together with the syntax and several examples. An extra feature after SSH access is allowed shall be the ability to connect to your hosting space via SFTP through any FTP client which supports this kind of connections.
